What you can do from the chat
Once an app is connected, the assistant works with your own data rather than general cooking knowledge. With PandaChef that covers your recipes with their tags and cookbooks, your pantry, your weekly plan and your shopping list, through more than 50 tools.
Plan the week: "Plan dinners Monday to Friday from my recipes, fish once." The plan appears as a card and is the same one you see in the app.
Cook from the pantry: "I still have pasta, lemons and cherry tomatoes. What can I cook tonight?" The answer ranks your own recipes by how much of them you already have.
Shop: "What do I still need for the weekend?" The list comes back with what your pantry already covers ticked off, and one request sends it to Bring!.
Find a recipe: "Where is the gumbo from last month?" The search runs over your collection, not the internet.

Plan dinners Monday to Friday from my recipes, fish once. And send the shopping list to Bring!.

Done. The week is in your meal plan and the shopping list is in Bring!.
The apps, checked on 16 October 2026
The recipe managers people compare most, ReciMe, Samsung Food, Paprika 3, Plan to Eat and AnyList, offered no ChatGPT or Claude connection when we checked. What exists is PandaChef and a handful of small tools built for the chat alone.
| App | What it is | In ChatGPT and Claude | Cost of the connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| PandaChef | Recipe manager with meal plan, shopping list, pantry and household; web and Android | Yes, through MCP, over 50 tools, cards in the chat | Included in the free plan |
| Foodie (Chewable), Pantrist, Mealift | Small MCP-only tools that bring recipes or plans into the chat | Yes, through MCP | See each provider; no full app behind them |
| Mealie | Self-hosted recipe manager for people who run their own server | Through an unofficial MCP server you host yourself | Free, if you run the server |
| ReciMe, Samsung Food, Paprika 3, Plan to Eat, AnyList | Recipe managers with their own apps | No connection when checked | None offered |
How the connection works
MCP is an open standard that lets an assistant call functions of another application. In ChatGPT you add PandaChef under Settings and Apps, in Claude under Settings and Connectors, using the address https://www.99pandas.de/mcp. You sign in with your PandaChef account once and confirm access. From then on the assistant calls PandaChef only for what you ask in a conversation, and the results show up as cards: a recipe with ingredients and steps, a list of recipes, the weekly plan, the shopping list.
Because the protocol is open, the same connection works with Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients, through a personal access token from the PandaChef settings.
What a full app adds to a chat tool
The data lives in the app, not in the conversation. A plan you make in the chat is on your phone in the morning, and a recipe you import on the sofa is there when you ask the assistant at the stove.
Import from links, photos, screenshots, PDFs and text, with the cookbook photo and the fridge photo included.
A household that shares the collection, the plan and the list, with cooking days per person.
The list, plan and pantry work offline in the app and sync when you are back online.
Limits
The assistant answers in its own words. The cards come from PandaChef, the sentences around them from ChatGPT or Claude.
Each AI feature inside PandaChef, such as the import from a photo, counts against the plan's AI allowance: 10 requests on the free plan, 50 a day with Premium. Reading your recipes, plan and list from the chat does not.
Adding a connector needs the connector or app settings in ChatGPT or Claude. Where those are not available to your account, the browser and the Android app work without them.
Frequently asked questions
Does the ChatGPT or Claude connection cost extra?
No. The connection is part of the free plan, with up to 9 recipes, the full meal plan and the shopping list. Premium lifts the recipe limit and adds the household; it is not needed for the chat.
Which assistants are supported?
ChatGPT and Claude through their connector settings, and Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients through a personal access token. The protocol is open, so new clients that support MCP work without changes on PandaChef's side.
What does the assistant see?
Only what it asks PandaChef for during a conversation, after you have signed in once and confirmed access. You can revoke the access in the PandaChef settings at any time.
Can ChatGPT add recipes it finds online to my collection?
Yes. Give it a link, and it can save the recipe to your collection through the same import the app uses, including the limits of that import.
